In the oil fields, legacy cuttings pits quickly turn into long-term liabilities for energy companies. Although most pits are lined, that doesn’t keep the rainwater and site runoff from adding to the waste volume. Once the volume exceeds the storage capacity of the pit, a new challenge begins.
Enhanced Thermal Conduction (ETC) is an ex-situ thermal process that heats stationary contaminated soil, volatilizes the contaminants, and destroys the off-gases. This design allows for much lower operating costs through higher thermal efficiency, compared to other thermal technologies, which “tumble” the soil.
